Local Level Alliance (LLA) Coordinator

Chris Ruyg is the Local Level Alliance (LLA) Coordinator with 54 Reasons and brings more than a decade of experience across social services in Mount Isa, the Gulf of Carpentaria and Cape York. His work is grounded in community-led solutions, workforce development and strengthening outcomes for First Nations communities.

Originally from New South Wales, Chris relocated with his family to Normanton over ten years ago and has since worked extensively as a frontline practitioner, team leader and manager across youth services, men’s behaviour change programs, family support, healing and wellbeing initiatives. His career includes leadership roles with the Normanton Recovery and Community Wellbeing Service and Save the Children/54 Reasons, supporting complex service delivery across alcohol and other drugs, mental health, justice, domestic and family violence, suicide prevention and youth training.

Chris holds a Certificate IV in Mental Health and specialist training across culturally informed and trauma-aware practice, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Men’s Behaviour Change Programs, Safe and Together, Deadly Thinking, Didirri and Narrative Therapy. He is widely recognised for his ethical leadership, collaborative approach and deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities of working in remote communities.

As Chair of the Mount Isa Regional Jobs Committee since its establishment in 2024, Chris has provided trusted leadership, bringing together community, government, industry and service providers to address regional workforce challenges. He represents Community Representatives & Groups, the Health & Social Assistance sector and Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and is committed to ensuring workforce initiatives remain grounded in local knowledge, cultural strength and community priorities.

Chris is also actively involved in local networks and community life, including the Local Level Alliance, Domestic Violence Action Group, Ryan Network, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Networks, and community sporting clubs. He brings a strong belief that “many hands make light work” and that lasting regional change is built through shared effort, respect and partnership
